Vegan Bacon [Carrot]


 First please note that only mother nature can produce a real bacon taste! This is a tasty alternative nonetheless.

4 Carrots

3 tbsp Olive oil (or oil you prefer)

3 tbsp Dark Soy sauce

3 tbsp Maple syrup (or honey)

1 tsp Ground Cumin

2 tsp Smoked Paprika

1/2-1 tsp crushed Garlic

1tsp crushed Onion (or 1/2 tsp onion powder)

2 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Chilli powder or Black Pepper


Wash carrots then top and tail. Lay flat on a work surface and use a peeler along the length to produce thin rashers. A Mandolin can also be used with extreme caution!

Place carrot rashers in a mixing bowl and add the salt, then all other ingredients.

Gently mix by hand to incorporate all the seasonings and coat each slice. 

Cover and leave to marinade till required or at least 10 minutes.

Lay slices on a hot grill or fry in oil till crispy. I've used both methods and found the latter much more bacon-like.
